Biography

Dr. Hannah is a seasoned research scientist and clinician with over 15 years of expertise in HIV and Ebola research. Her work encompasses a broad spectrum of activities, including conducting clinical trials to evaluate vaccines for HIV, Ebola/Marburg viruses, COVID-19, and Schistosomiasis. She also plays a key role in surveillance efforts aimed at detecting and monitoring emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, as well as addressing the growing challenge of antimicrobial resistance. In her current leadership role as Executive Director at MUWRP, she provides strategic guidance, oversees research operations, and fosters collaborations to advance infectious disease research and response.
In recent years, Dr. Hannah has been actively involved with the HOPE Collaboratory, focusing on innovative HIV cure research. She is working on the Block-Lock-Excise (Stop) approach, which aims to achieve a long-lasting silencing of latent viruses and control infection without ongoing therapy. This method involves strategies to inhibit viral gene expression, permanently lock the virus in a dormant state, and remove residual viral DNA, with the goal of developing a functional cure for HIV. Her efforts are contributing to groundbreaking advancements in the pursuit of sustainable HIV management and eradication.
