Biography
Dr. Leigh Anne Eller, Ph.D., is the Director of the International Laboratory Program (INLAP) at the Military HIV Research Program (MHRP). In her role, she oversees and provides technical support to international laboratories involved in MHRP/EIDB studies, ensuring they meet accreditation standards such as those from the College of American Pathologists and ISO 15189. She is responsible for maintaining Good Clinical Laboratory Practices, managing laboratory budgets, developing, and implementing laboratory components of clinical research, overseeing repository management, and shipping, and facilitating technology transfer and capacity building.
Dr. Eller also acts as a vital liaison between international clinical research teams and laboratory investigators within MHRP/EIDB, promoting collaboration and effective communication across sites.
She has been with MHRP since 1998, initially conducting pre-clinical studies in mice and non-human primates to evaluate immune responses to vaccine candidates. Her work included the construction and characterization of Modified Vaccinia Ankara HIV-1 viruses for human clinical trials. Dr. Eller completed her undergraduate degree at Yale University, earned a master’s in biotechnology from Johns Hopkins University, and obtained her PhD from Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.
